This week signals possibly the future and direction that Microsoft will be taking, it marks the end of an era when CEO Steve Blamer hands the reins to Satya Nadella and company co-founder Bill Gates steps down to role of technology advisor.

Steve Balmer through exuberance and flamboyancy has become a magnet for the media since his appointment in 2000. By handing over the reins to Nadella this will only be the third CEO Microsoft has had in their history, with Nadella’s previous position as executive VP of the cloud and enterprise division this movement may single a change in the way Microsoft process everything and start working on more cloud based projects.

Bill Gates has passed the Chairman responsibilities over to John Thompson by taking up the role of technical advisor, he will work closely with Nadella to help set the company’s technology and product direction.
